I have thought about doing something of my own for quite some time now. Cooking and eating simple and healthy Indian food is something I enjoy and after a lot of thought – speaking to my family and friends – I decided to take the opportunity to start my own home based Indian cookery school in 2017. Traditional home cooked Indian food has always been an important part of my life. I was born and raised in New Delhi (North India) and fell in love with a South Indian! This cultural mix of North and South helped build my repertoire of Indian dishes – some of which have been in our families for generations. After eight years in the corporate world I decided to take a career break to raise a family. During this period I spent a lot of time in our family kitchen, honing my cooking skills – replicating and improvising on our family recipes. I discovered I had a real passion for Indian cooking. My husband and I relocated to the UK in 2007 and during this time I realised the Indian food that was on offer at ‘Indian’ restaurants, take away joints and supermarkets was nowhere close to the Indian food that I had grown up eating – simple, rustic, healthy and yet delicious. Over the many dinner parties that we have hosted this sentiment has been affirmed by our guests – they have not experienced homely Indian food elsewhere and they always come back for more. One of the many common myths about Indian curry is that it is oily, heavy and difficult to digest but the reality is that if you use good quality ingredients and adopt simple cooking techniques you will be able to maintain a healthy diet – even with eating curry 3 or 4 times a week! I spent many months considering the kind of family recipes I should share, good quality ingredients that are easily available, calorie consumption, time required to cook and the enjoyable experience that I am keen to provide during the classes.

It is on the back of this that I launched Breech Lane Curry School – Indian cooking classes and courses to share my passion, knowledge and understanding of Indian food in its true sense. What started in 2017 from my humble home kitchen in Breech Lane has now expanded to demand its very own space. My school now runs from a gorgeous bespoke cookery studio based in my back garden, from the picturesque village of Walton on the Hill in Surrey! I am also proud to share that it has won the award for the Best Indian Cookery School for 2022 at the 11th English Curry Awards and received the Trip Advisor Travellers Choice Award over two consecutive years in 2021 & 2022. My school has attracted more than 450 five star reviews and welcomed many 1000 participants thus far! |
My mission is to promote my traditional family recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation. I use quality ingredients that promote local suppliers and easy to source Indian spices to make them into healthy, homely and tasty meals. You will learn to cook both non-vegetarian and vegetarian dishes along with a selection of Indian wholemeal rotis, rice dishes, chutneys and raitas that compliment each other. On offer are a variety of courses ranging from my very popular Family Secret classes to Indian street food; from Hyderabadi Lamb Dum Biryani sessions to South Indian dosa and accompaniment classes; from veg only classes to Indian inspired bbq classes. |
